How to Stop Abortion Funding through Health Care Reform in Your State - by Daniel McConchie on March 30, 2010

With the recent passage of health care reform, citizens across the country have asked if there is anything they can do to help stop the funding of abortion.

The good news is – yes you can.

The new health care law allows states to opt-out of one of the abortion provisions of the new federal system. To do this, the state legislature must pass a law that says that no abortion coverage may be provided by a qualified health plan offered through an exchange offered in that state that was created under/by the new federal law.

While ordinary citizens cannot introduce legislation themselves, they can encourage their state legislators to do so. Here’s how you can help:

  1. Identify a friendly pro-life state legislator
  2. Call his or her office and ask that they help your state to opt-out of the abortion provisions in the federal health care law.
  3. Offer AUL’s model language “Federal Abortion Mandate Opt-Out Act” and legal expertise to them.
  4. Offer to help the legislator get the bill passed.

If you identify a legislator interested in pursuing this bill, please notify AUL’s Vice President of Government Affairs at legislation@aul.org so we can follow up with every opportunity.
Support State Sovereignty

Many states have proposed amendments to protect their citizens from the folly of legislation created at the Federal level. This assures a state's sovereignty, as guaranteed under the 10th amendment. Find your state's bill number either in the house or senate and contact your state legislators to pass the amendment. This will allow the people of the state to decide, unlike a select few in Washington D.C. deciding the fate of Americans.

Replace Socialists/ Marxist/ Communists that are currently in office

"We the people" must be aware of what makes our country unique and a model for the rest of the world. When individuals are elected to office that do not believe in the Constitution as the accepted document that limits the rule of government, it destroys the uniqueness of our Republic and molds us into the same as other socialist/communist countries of the world. One would hardly think that such is the goal of Americans.

There will always be people that love power and will confiscate from others under the perception to redistribute as a means to remain in power. People who believe they will receive what others have worked for by voting such people into office are fooled daily. They will always end up on the short end of such communistic ideology. It destroys the entire well being of all people. As such, look to support only those that fully support rule by the Constitution.

Second, we must be willing and ready to fight for freedom every day. Those elected to office and violate their oath of office to uphold the constitution must be held accountable. One would conclude that those that lack the moral honor to be faithful to that oath are not the kind of people that deserve to represent others. Ask you self is that the kind of person you would call your friend? We must stand together and demand their removal from office.

We must seek honorable people with an unwavering moral perpetuate to abide by our Constitution. When those people step forward vote them into office and continue to support them. When those in office do not hold to such principles, demand their resignation and vote them out when they do not step down.

“It is hardly too strong to say that the Constitution was made to guard the people against the dangers of good intentions. There are men in all ages who mean to govern well, but they mean to govern. - Daniel Webster

“In questions of power, then, let no more be heard of confidence in man, but bind him down from mischief by the chains of the Constitution.” - Thomas Jefferson
